DEAR TRAVELLING SOULS!

We would like to welcome you to the Backpack Guesthouse, the first hostel in Budapest. Since 1992 we have been helping travellers explore our beautiful city and providing them with a home away from home and a temporary familly.

Probably one of the best Hostels in Eastern Europe, and a haven for individual travellers and small groups, over the past 16 years the Backpack Guesthouse has become more of a community than just a hostel. Located about 12 minutes from the city centre (with excellent transport links 24hrs), in a leafy residential street in Buda we have a magical chill out garden, with fruit trees, hammocks and a Mongolian Yurt.

Our friendly and well-travelled live-in staff will do everything they can to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, making you feel at home, and helping you meet other travellers. We believe we can make most people happy. We always enjoy showing people Budapests underground attractions, and leading nightime missions. Alternativly you can stay at home, and relax in our large common room, complete with comfy couches, T.V, massive film collection and free Nargile (Turkish water-pipe).

Why not take advantage of our cheap beer and extensive music collection, cook in style in our large and well-equipped kitchen, complete with helpful communal food cupboard, or alternatively order in a gigantic pizza, or some local cuisine. Relax with a cup of free herbal tea or coffee on our balcony, surf our free internet/Wifi, or just hang out and chat to the staff!

We offer both large (10 bed) and small (5 bed) dorms, plus two doubles. Each room has a unique and colourful theme including Bob Marley, Aquarium and Goa, designed by a local Hungarian artist.

Whether you come for a short visit, or decidet o stay awhile, we hope you will enjoy living here as much as we do.

Caving

SINCE OUR COUNTRY IS LACKING IN BIG MOUNTAINS AND ROCKFACES,
CAVING BECAME REALLY POPULAR IN HUNGARY.
WE TAKE TOURS TO MÁTYÁS CAVE, MADE OF LIMESTONE CLAY. IT'S
ONE OF THE FEW IN THE WORLD FORMED BY THERMAL WATER FROM
THE INSIDE, UNLIKE MOST OTHERS CREATED BY THE RAIN FROM
THE OUTSIDE. HOT THERMAL WATERS (SUPPLYING LOTS OF THERMAL
BATHS IN TOWN) FROM BELOW MADE CREVICES BIGGER & BIGGER,
EVENTUALLY LARGE ENOUGH FOR US TO CRAWL THROUGH.
THE 4500 M LABYRINTH-STYLE CAVE IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC
AND ONLY EXPERIENCED GUIDES CAN LEAD YOU THROUGH.
THIS IS QUITE A CHALLENGING EXPERIENCE.
ALTHOUGH NO PREVIOUS CAVING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY YOU NEED
TO BE REASONABLY ACTIVE AND NOT CLAUSTROPHOBIC.

COME AND GET THE UNDERGROUND EXPERIENCE OF BUDAPEST!

TOUR COSTS: 4500 HUF (~16 EURO)/PERSON
DURATION: approx. 3 HOURS

INCLUDING: GUIDE, OVERALLS, TORCH, HELMET
